Recycling Ocean Plastic Debris into an Artificial Island

About 80 percent of debris in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is plastic. --> LINK

This project is currently in the conceptual design phase. Recycling technologies will be explored to harvest plastic debris on-site in the Pacific Ocean and recycling debris into standardized interlocking floating platforms for:
Habitation
Agriculture
Manufacturing
Scientific research
Mission oriented communities


Small table sized mockups will be assessed in marine environments and scaled up accordingly with robust development methodologies.


Potentional technology development initiatives for power generation are identified:
1) A hybrid sail which converts wind and solar into useful energy
* research into flexible solar/electric mylar substrate films - in progress as of 2013-4-8
2) A stable solar heliostat positioning system on a moving marine platform
* design completed
* Prototype construction is 1% completed as of 2013-4-8
- Parts and supplies requisitioning - in progress as of 2013-4-8
3) A solar/refrigerant engine system for efficient mechanical/electrical energy conversion
* Design is completed
* Prototype construction is 1% completed as of 2013-4-8
- Parts and supplies requisitioning - in progress as of 2013-4-8
4) A saltwater electrolysis system to store pressurized hydrogen, controlled release to fuel cells when needed
* Design is completed
* A prototype is being constructed. 3% completed as of 2013-4-8

5) High efficiency / small footprint battery technology
* Graphine battery technology is currently being developed
- Design is completed
- Prototype construction is 1% completed as of 2013-4-8

1) A plastics pulverizing solution

2) A chemical plastics recycling solution

* investigation of solvent recovery during process - in progress 4-11-2013
3) A thermal plastics recycling solution
* Design of plastic sheet fabrication is completed
* Prototype construction is 1% completed as of 2013-4-8
